Who: Remus and whomever
Where: Hogwarts Library
When: Jan. 29 around 7 in the evening

Remus, in his quest for further isolation from the whole of Gryffindor, settled in the library amongst some stacks located in the furthest reaches of the Transfiguration section. He figured while he was there, he might as well get working on that foot and a half due to McGonagall on Friday. He found his necessary books and spread out on the table and readied his quill. He had been feeling a bit down as of late and he wasn't entirely sure of the cause. He blew a piece of hair away from his face and started to write, focused only on his paper and the thoughts swimming around in his brain.

Severus had been holed up in a far corner of the library for most of the day, the note giving him access to the restricted section tucked securely inside his robes. He'd been doing research on an extra credit project, potions (of course), and so the stack of books he was returning to the front desk contained a number of items that were... less than savoury.

Rounding the final shelf, he froze, eyes locked on a head of sandy hair between him and his destination. Lupin was, perhaps, the only one of the four who wasn't a halfwit, but he was still a Marauder, and where one went the others followed. Severus's tongue darted out to wet suddenly dry lips, and his eyes flicked between the boy and the front desk. He was hungry - he'd skipped lunch already - otherwise he would have turned right back around to hide in the corner, but he didn't want to miss dinner as well.

Unsure, he continued to stand there, unable to decide whether the risk of suffering at the hands of the Foul Foursome was worth a meal.

Remus, oblivious to just about everything around him looked up just in time to notice Snape glancing nervously at him and then the door. Not particularly inspired to torment anyone on his own, and sometimes not even when he is with the others, Remus pretended as if he hadn't noticed him. He didn't want any trouble and would be perfectly happy to let Snape pass, although he didn't exactly have to let him know that.

Remus pretended to wave at someone towards the back of the library and hopefully out of Snape's view. Otherwise he would just look completely mental.

Snape's eyes widened as Lupin looked up, directly at him, and then his gaze slid off to a spot on Severus's left. He stood there for a moment, stunned, and then blinked in confusion. There was no way the Gryffindor hadn't seen him, and yet... The only explaination Snape could come up with was that for once in his nuclear little life, Lupin was going to do the decent thing and let him pass.

To say that Snape was hopeful would have been an overstatement, but he had almost taken a step towards the door when Lupin raised his hand, and waved. Instantly he shrank back into the shadow of the shelving, eyes darting towards the direction the other boy was facing. Waving meant people, and Lupin was waving towards the back of the library - the direction Snape had just come from. A direction in which there were no people. Or, there shouldn't have been, unless they were hiding... Severus could feel a tension headache coming on, and as he stood there, leaning back against a bookshelf and listening intently for the conspirational whispers that would give a potential attacker away, he wondered if he was actually going eat today.

Remus went straight back to his paper after waving at the person who wasn't there. He wasn't going to be able to carry that much farther since it was obvious now that nobody was there. He felt that tormenting Snape just a little was required by some sort of code and if he didn't, he would find himself unable to get into his dormitory that night. However he had no wish or means to take it much farther than that. He glanced up from his paper to see what sort of progress was being made over by the bookshelf.

The silence in the library growing almost oppresive, Severus finally relaxed against the bookshelf. Lupin hadn't moved for the last few minutes, and the only sounds were the rustling of pages and the scratch of a blunt quill on parchment. Perhaps he'd been overreacting - without that moron Black, he could be a reasonable human being. McGonagal wouldn't have made him a prefect otherwise, Severus reasoned to himself.

Straightening the books in his arms, he stepped out from behind the shelves, studiously not making eye contact as he headed for the front desk, shoulders slightly hunched as though to ward off an inevitable blow.

Remus continued with his work, glancing up once while Snape was passing by. He wasn't one to attack first, especially in the library as he found himself needing to use it more as the school year carried on. He let Snape pass without incident, having no good reason to talk or ridicule him at that particular moment. He snickered as he went back to his paper, finding great amusement in how much Snape had overreacted to his presence.
