Hallway by the Great Hall, open to anyone

Ever since Evan's spider bite had been cured, he had needed to learn to use his leg again. This ordeal, although uncomfortable, had proven almost a relief to him. He'd spent so much time in the infirmary, where no one expected much from him and he could (pretend to) read his class notes at his own pace. Until the hard part came and Madam Pomfrey forced him onto his feet, but even then at least he didn't have to go to class.

Now, he had none of those advantages. He was well enough to go back to classes and had to hobble around with a cane. Like an old man. The cane even looked like an old man's, all wooden and knobbly. This put him in a foul mood that made him even less interested in socialising.

As he hobbled back from an afternoon check-up with Madam Pomfrey (which he had complained the wole way through), he peeked into the Great Hall. The noise and bustle sliced into his brain and he decided he wasn't hungry, moving on in the direction of the dungeons.

((A Slytherin in a foul mood? Who better for the job than the hapless Peter?? Lol . . . ))

Peter needed lunch. It was one of the few things worth looking forward to these days, when he was so moody and felt so different-- and the mates seemed to have been scarce in terms of fun excursions.

He almost started laughing (though he wasn't so dumb as that) when he saw a Slytherin he knew by sight hobbling along with a cane. It briefly registered he might be the student who had been attacked, but, well, he was a Slytherin, too; he might have just been victim to a successful prank. If there were any more successful pranks. He stopped and watched him a little bit, his curiosity getting the better of his stomach.

((Haha >.<))

Evan a boy who he didn't recognise (though that's not saying much) staring at him. So - strangers were now stopping in their tracks to take a gawk. Of course the little tit wouldn't sympathise with his pain. No one else recognised Evan's wonderfulness, and usually he didn't care, but today he had to admit that he did a little bit.

He glared at the boy, forgetting to look where he was going and tripping over his cane.

Peter's stomach gave a funny jolt as the boy fumbled around his walking stick like a newborn giraffe. He was pretty sure-- particularly considering the nasty look-- that he had had something to do with that. He tried to catch it, but he couldn't prevent the small snort of amusement from departing his nostrils.

Trying to reconcile this-- or maybe make it seem like the boy's own hallucination-- he stammered, "Uh-- uh, are you alright?"

Evan stared up at Peter from his new position on the floor. Now he was definately confused. He was sure he'd heard the boy laugh a bit, and now he was acting concerned. People were so strange...

"Err...I guess..." he said, making no move to get up. Really, he just wanted to throw the frustrating cane across the room and sit in the middle of the hallway for the rest of the day.

Peter wasn't entirely sure if it would be safe to be too friendly. Should he offer him a hand?

"Do you want some help?" he asked, hoping that wouldn't somehow be construed as an insult.

Evan continued to stare up at Peter, contemplating whether it was worth taking the offered help. After counting ten breaths he decided that he should at least get up and make his way to the nearest chair.

"Yes, thank you," he said, reaching for his cane and holding his other hand out to be pulled up.

Not being very strong, Peter tipped forward quite a bit trying to pull Evan to his feet. It didn't help he was reaching for his cane at the same time, he thought to himself-- but he didn't blame him for not entirely trusting he would actually help.

"So, uh . . . what'd you do?" he asked-- and instantly regretted implying whatever it was was his own fault. What if he was . . . ?

"Thanks," Evan said again, heaving up onto his feet awkwardly with Peter's help and then shifting his weight back onto his cane. Hanging his head, he said, "Made friends with a spider and gave it a new look. It was very ungrateful and bit my leg, the twat." The resentment seeping from his voice showed just what he thought of the spider.

Peter took a moment to process this, unsure of whether this was code for something else, or if Evan really had had a strange encounter with a spider. This was Hogwarts, after all. "Sounds . . . unfortunate . . . " he offered. "At least, erm, Mdm. Pomfrey knows what she's doing?"
